What is the “light” that Jesus brings to our world?
Last week we kicked off our new Advent series called “Out of Darkness”. The purpose of this series is for us as a church to better understand how the birth of Christ (Christmas!) offers us genuine hope, faith, peace and joy in the midst of the dark trials in life. For we believe that God, through Christ, has called us out of the darkness of sin and into the everlasting light of His presence. However, we do not yet experience His “light” in all of its fullness. This world and our lives are still stained by the vestiges of “darkness” (sin, evil, death). Yet each year Christmas comes to us as a reminder that our Savior and King has come to bring light to this dark world, and that one day the kingdom we can’t quite see yet will finally be revealed to this world in all of its splendor and glory.
This week we will explore how the season of Advent helps to strengthen our faith by remembering that Christ has come. His birth is a historical fact – it cannot be changed or taken away! What this means is that the light of presence is truly with us! No matter how “dark” our circumstance may seem, Christ is near and He gives to His people the daily grace they need in order to endure and keep going forward in faith.
My hope is that this Advent series will not only remind that “Jesus is the reason for the season” but to also encourage you to continue walking in the light of His presence and trusting Him for all that is to come in the next year.
I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday!
