John 7:12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.”
In the first 12 verses of John 7 there is this tremendous array of different reactions and responses to Jesus. John says there was “widespread whispering” about Jesus!
He is a good man (12)
He deceives people (12)
Jewish leaders looking for a way to kill him (1)
Jesus’ family members not believing in him (4)
To be sure, a few had stepped out of the whispering and stepped into the acknowledging that Jesus is more than good and not a deceiver – that He is Lord and Savior. Chapter 7 comes at the heels of Peter stating, (John 6:69) “We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” So, among the “widespread whispering” there were a few audible voices.
In heaven, we are told, all whispering has ceased – only shouting and singing – “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Let’s take our place within the singing – not the whispering.
