Jesus Outside the Walls 4

Jesus Outside the Walls 4

Sunday, June 27
Mark 4:37-38 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”

Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?

Where do you suppose that comment landed on the heart of Jesus?
Teacher, do you not care…..?

Have you ever heard something similar spoken to you?

On a heart that has any softness to it, those words have a smack to them; they hit hard and often pause momentum.

Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?

Jesus could have pointed to a thousand different places in their lives to validate the extent of his caring, or simply highlight a soon-to-be-filled cross.

A misinterpretation of the wind and waves and breaking and sinking and sleeping had led them to an erroneous conclusion about Jesus.

Jesus’ response: And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” (Mark 4:39-40)

Jesus creates a visible lesson that answers their ill-worded question with an exclamation point!!!
Believe it, I will always care!

Faith and the unchangeable truth of Jesus’ care.

Of all those we question about caring, Jesus should not be on that list
