John 4:3-6 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. And he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.
Note the details that set up this event:
Jesus is on his way to Galilee and the route takes him through a portion of Samaria.
He arrives at a specific town that has a well that is linked to Joseph and Jacob.
It is noon and Jesus decides to kick back and rest beside the well.
