Connected :: Full Joy
John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Full joy…. Jesus’ joy in us — both sound pretty awesome!
Full joy! How did Jesus know that our joy sometimes leaks? Or, perhaps more accurately, gets covered up with stuff?
Full joy. Perhaps you’ve experienced it. Full joy is more than a giddiness that subsides as the smiles slow down. Full joy is less flitty than it is undergirding; it is more stable and sustaining than it is emotional.
Full joy–where does that come from?
Answer: Jesus’ joy in us!
Just as Jesus is more stable, undergirding, and sustaining than all others — so too His joy exhibits the same: sustaining, constant and full!
And how do we arrive at this joy? He tells us — These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you…. What things has Jesus spoken to us?
  • Abide in me and I in you (vs 4)
  • every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit (vs 2)
  • By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit (vs 8)
  • As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you (vs 9)
  • If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (vs 7)
Real joy–full joy–is less about us and all about Jesus.
It reminds me of the angel’s words about joy in Luke 2:10-11: I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Looking for full joy — abide in Jesus our Savior and His joy will be in us!
