Genesis 48:11 And Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face; and behold, God has let me see your offspring also.”
Has God ever gone above and beyond what you ever even expected? That is part of what Jacob is expressing to his son Joseph.
For 20+ years Jacob had thought his son Joseph had been killed by a wild animal — he never expected he would see his son’s face again — and now, not just his son, but his son’s sons! Far above and beyond what was ever expected.
Does God do that often? Paul thought so:
Eph 3:20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
Jesus taught so:
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.
The disciples would testify so:
John 6:12-13 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
Jacob experienced so:
Gen 48:11 And Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face; and behold, God has let me see your offspring also.” Where has God gone above and beyond what you ever even expected… In your family… In His provisions… In your relationships… In your job… in your day today….
God goes above and beyond what we ever even expected. We are nearing the celebration of one of the best expressions of that truth:
Mark 16:1-3 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”God goes above and beyond what we ever even expected — believe it, look for it, expect it!
