Matt 5:37 – Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.
Here are some examples of when I have spoken ‘yes’ and it was more of a ‘maybe’:
Yes, I will be home at 6 pm.
Yes, we can go hiking on Saturday.
Here are some times when I said ‘yes’ without fully understanding what ‘yes’ involved:
Yes, I want to be your friend.
Yes, God, I will go where you want me to go and do what you want me to do
Here are a few ‘yes’ moments that I’m so thankful I’ve spoken and have the privilege of working out:
Yes, I want to follow, Jesus!
Yes, I want to marry you!
And, here are some of those who might say my ‘yes’ seems to come with a caveat (other than my friends, my family and my God):
Everyone
Here is the one whose ‘yes’ doesn’t smell of maybe…
Here is the one who fully realizes what a ‘yes’ entails…
Here is the one whom we will forever be grateful for his ‘yes’…
Here is one whose ‘yes’ is always ‘yes’ — no caveat needed…
Here is the one who fulfills every one of God’s ‘yeses’…
Jesus
