Dealing With Weeds

Dealing With Weeds

July 26, 2020
This will be my last week here in Clay Center. It sure has been an interesting year…an interestingly good year. Thank you all for your generosity and flexibility to work with me through these changing and challenging times. I’m glad that it is time for me to go. Not because we haven’t gotten along, but I celebrate with you that God has provided your next pastor and that you are healthy and ready to receive him. My job is done and it’s time to move on. Thanks again for all your loving kindness and blessings on your continuing ministry ahead.
My final message this Sunday will be an agricultural lesson from the Bible. You might ask, “What can this city kid teach us Kansas farmers about agriculture?” A fair question, but my resource is a parable told by Jesus, found in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43. Dealing with Weeds
Weeds are a part of life…in your lawn, along the road, in the crop fields, and even in the church. We hate weeds, but Jesus says this about the church-weeds, “Let ‘em be. Don’t pull them up and don’t spray them with Round UP.” (well, he didn’t really refer to Round Up in his original lesson) He has a plan for a bountiful harvest where He separates the weeds from the wheat…and miraculously transforms many church weeds into a fruitful crop. He can do it and sometimes we catch a glimpse of His work around us…and in us.
Hey, are you a weed?
Pastor Jeff
