The GOD Questions :: Part 4
With all that’s going on in this messed up world around us, and right here in Clay Center, Kansas, the question will pop up, “Why does a loving God allow so much suffering in the world?” If He really is all-powerful, why doesn’t He just put a stop to it? I sure would!
But, lucky for you, I’m not God. God knows better and He has a plan, even for suffering. One of the inconvenient truths about us is that God has given us free will. He could have created us to all be holy, obedient robots who never did anything harmful or wrong. He wants us to love Him and be in a healthy, loving relationship with Him and others. In His Great Commandment He says, “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength…and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) But for it to be genuine love, we must choose it. Robots can’t love.
So why all the suffering? We’ll dig into it as we continue on our “God Questions” trek, topic #4 How Can a Good God Allow Suffering? There is a reason and God reveals His plan through Scripture and in our everyday lives. Have you ever suffered anything? It’s okay to ask, “Why?”
Come join us at the Dexter Park Band Shell as we worship, learn, and celebrate the lives and calling of some special people in our church family. Pray for good weather.
