Immerse Kingdoms :: 2 Samuel – 1 Kings

Have you ever done anything really stupid?
The truth is, we have all done more stupid things than we’d like to admit. If we ever think about those bad decisions, we wish we could somehow hit the reset button and go back in time to doing things differently…“do-overs.”  Time travel isn’t a reality yet, so we’re stuck living in the reality of a history of having said things we regret, having hurt people we love, falling into temptation and hurting ourselves, or just making stupid decisions. Like grandma used to say, “hindsight is 20-20.”
So here we are in 2020 going through the IMMERSE:Kingdoms series, looking for that perfect vision to get us through life. Surely God will point us in the right direction. If we just pay attention to God, no more stupid mistakes, right? Good luck with that.
In the roller-coaster adventure of Israel, God moves Solomon, son of David and Bathsheba, to the throne of Israel. In a dream, Solomon hears God’s offer, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Whoa! Coming from God, this is better than the 3 Wishes from the Genie in the Lamp, or the wish you get when you blow out all the candles on your birthday cake.
Of all the things Solomon could have wished for, what did he ask for? Wisdom.
Now it didn’t solve all of Solomon’s problems. He still made some stupid mistakes. But as God spoke His wisdom through Solomon, Israel prospered and much of God’s wisdom has been recorded in Scripture. Let’s keep reading.
