This week I will finish my series on Spiritual Maturity. So, what does spiritual maturity actually look like? What are we really doing in the church? Why do we do what we do? It is easy to get caught up in the “religious practices” of church…doing church without really thinking about what we’re doing. Church can become just a habit or a weekly ritual. That’s not us!
We come together on a regular schedule to worship God, to learn more-and-more about God and His plan for us, and then to help each other to apply it to our lives…maturing step-by-step into Christ-likeness. We take active steps to follow Jesus but a bigger part of the process is allowing God to shape us by the working of His Holy Spirit.
The key scripture passage for this Sunday is Luke 11:37-52 where Jesus lays out “Six Woes” about being overly religious while still missing God’s intent for our lives. (If these six don’t fill your cup, take a look at Matthew’s version in Matthew 23. He offers a 7th Woe.)
