Peter was a “plunger”…he’d jump into things or blurt thing out before giving it much thought. He jumped out of the boat twice, and he even cut off a soldier’s ear. Why would Jesus use Peter as a positive example for us? Jesus did point out Peter’s brash short-comings but he also pointed to his bravery. Peter stepped bravely into places that the average smart person might never venture.
This week we’ll take a look at the story in Matthew 14 where Jesus was seen walking on the water, and Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, too. We probably won’t have an opportunity to literally walk on water like Peter, but symbolically this story is a “call” to each one of us to be ready-willing-an-able to get out of whatever boat we’re in and walk on the water when God calls.
