What has gone wrong with the world and what is God doing to fix it?
Have you ever wondered how the world around us got to be so messed up? Why there is so much pain, disappointment, injustice and evil? Have you ever wondered why God has allowed things to get so out of control and if he is ever going to do so something about it?
This week as we begin our study in the Pentateuch, we will carefully examine the foundational chapters of the entire bible: Genesis 1-3. In these critical chapters, we will learn not only about the reasons for which God has created the world but what went tragically wrong and why. More importantly, we will also catch a glimpse of how God plans to fix and save the world from itself!
My hope is that this message will help you not only better understand the text of Genesis 1-3, but also better understand why the world is the way that it is – and what God is doing to save and redeem it through Jesus Christ! As I mentioned last Sunday, the bible doesn’t just give us a history lesson concerning how God has been at work throughout the ages – the bible actually gives us a lens; a perspective; a way of interpreting the world around us in light of who God is and what He has promised to do in our lives. In short, the bible helps us to understand who God is, who we are in relationship to God, and how God wants us to respond to the world around us!
And Genesis 1-3 lays the foundation for all this by introducing us to the God who loves, rules and ultimately redeems the creation He has made.
I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday!
