What does pursuing Jesus mean practically speaking?
Last week in our study of the book of Hebrews we learned how God uses trials, temptations and tribulation to discipline us for our good. God’s discipline in our lives is never punitive but always redemptive. Therefore, the writer encourages us to keep our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus and pursue Him all the more!
But what exactly does that pursuit look like, practically speaking? What does it mean to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and to continue growing spiritually?
This week as we explore the rest of Hebrews 12, the writer is going to give us not only specific and practical encouragement in what pursuing Jesus means, but he will also remind us of the incredible inheritance we currently have in Christ. In other words, the writer is going to show us our pursuit of Jesus is a direct result of Him having already pursued us and given us His heavenly reward! While there is a future heavenly reward awaiting us at the resurrection and consummation of the kingdom, let us not forget that there is a present inheritance we can learn to enjoy right now!
My hope is that this week’s message will be an encouragement and reminder to you that no matter what you may be going through in life, Jesus’s presence in our lives is still constant – He will not leave or abandon us. We can trust Him still!
I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday!
