Do you long for more spiritual fruit in your life? Do you desire more peace, joy, goodness, self-control and holiness? Would you like to experience the reality of Christ more in your character, habits, attitudes?
My hope is that you would all respond to these questions with a resounding yes!
So the questions is: how do we get more of these spiritual benefits? What do you need to do to see and experience more of God’s work in our lives? There are a plethora of books, articles and messages out there which offer a variety of answers to this question. Some of them are solid and biblically-grounded. Many are not. However, the New Testament gives us a very succinct and simple answer to the question of how we to experience more of God: we need the Lord’s discipline.
Most of us shy away from discipline and would much prefer a less painful and dreary way of growing spiritually. However, the reality is that just as parents are given the (often times!) unpleasant task of teaching/training children to behave, act and think in appropriate ways, so does God with us.
This week in our study in the book of Hebrews we will explore how God uses trials, temptations and tribulations to help grow and mature our faith. My hope is that we can all be encouraged to embrace the work of God in our lives in all of its dimensions, and become more and more fruitful for His kingdom!
I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday!
