In our study of the book of Hebrews, I have argued that the central message the writer wants to convey to us is simply this: Jesus is worth it!
In other words, having Jesus in our lives is worth every effort, sacrifice, struggle and hardship. Jesus is the rewarder of our faith, meaning that He promises to bless any and all who seek to follow Him. As one ancient once put it: “Christ is no man’s debtor.” What this means is that no one who puts their faith in Christ and follows after Him will come out disappointed or empty-handed. Jesus takes care of His own!
This week we will look at Hebrews 11 and see how the Old Testament saints lived by faith in something they couldn’t always see, taste, smell or touch in the same way that we do. However, the writer tells us that our Old Testament heroes did not have the same privileges we do – for we have “seen” the glory of the risen Christ in the gospel. We who trust in Christ have received and experienced that which they longed for: the arrival of God’s promised salvation. And though we do not yet see God’s salvation yet in its fullness, we can be assured that greater things are still yet to come because of what has already been accomplished with the resurrection of Jesus and the extension of His kingdom across the world.
The bottom-line, friends, is this: Jesus is real. Your faith is not in vain. Keep on going; don’t give up. He is worth it and His blessings are real.
I look forward to sharing more with you Sunday. See you then!
